City Newspaper Ads for WBER 90.5 FM

  • Basic station ads promoting its format or current bands in rotation

  • Channeling the independent and alternative mindset of WBER’s listeners

  • Making WBER a kindred spirit that gets their energy in print

  • In the early 2000s, independent and non-profit WBER 90.5 FM I Rochester, NY got some ad space in the City Newspaper in trade and asked me to create a series of fractional ads.

Instead of the typical ads that simply share the bands the station plays, my writing partner Mike Baron wanted to get in the same headspace as the alternative rock listeners that cherish WBER.

LA lifestyle and music photographer Christopher Wray-McCann collaborated with us to bring his gritty, black & white imagery to life for these contemplations on music.

And you can tell this is the early 2000s since each line is delivered on the that packaging seal that secured the spines of compact discs back in the day. And the full URL with the hypertext transfer protocol (http) is a pretty big giveaway too. Geez.
